This Privacy Policy explains how Kippo AI ("Kippo," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use Kippo, our personalized children's audio-story service available at getkippo.com (the "Service").
Kippo is designed to be used by parents and other adults. Children do not create accounts, log in, or interact with the Service directly. A parent or guardian sets up the account, provides a few details about their child, and plays the finished stories for the child.
By using Kippo, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name and email address, and either a password or your Google sign-in. Authentication is handled through Google Firebase.
Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number — Stripe handles that directly. We receive limited billing details such as your subscription status and the type and last four digits of your payment method.
Information you provide about your child. To personalize a story, you may enter limited details about your child, such as a first name or nickname, age, interests, and personality traits. You provide this information as the parent or guardian; the child does not enter it.
Voice recordings (optional). If you choose to use voice cloning, you may record or upload a voice sample so that stories can be narrated in that voice. This feature is optional, and the voice sample is used only to generate narration for your stories. You can delete a cloned voice at any time from your account, which also deletes it from our voice provider.
Stories and content you create. We store the stories, drafts, and characters you create so you can play and manage them.
Questions you ask Ask Kippo. If you use Ask Kippo, our in-app help assistant, we store the questions you ask so we can answer them and improve our help content.
Story sharing. If you share a story by email, we collect the recipient's email address and use it only to send that story.
Usage and technical information. Like most online services, we automatically collect technical information such as device and browser type, IP address, and basic activity logs to operate and secure the Service. We use Google reCAPTCHA to help protect the Service against abuse, which processes device and browser information.
Cookies and analytics. We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and operate the Service. We also use Google Analytics to understand how the Service is used — for example, which pages are visited and when someone signs up or subscribes. We configure Google Analytics so that it does not receive children's names, story content, character details, or email addresses.
Advertising cookies. We advertise Kippo to parents on Google and on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). To measure whether those ads work and to show Kippo ads to parents who have visited our website, we use advertising cookies and similar technologies from Google and Meta. These collect information such as the pages you visit on our website, your device and browser, your IP address, and whether you signed up or subscribed after seeing an ad. Google and Meta may combine this with information they already have about you and use it to show you Kippo ads on other websites and apps. Advertising tags run only on our public website and on the sign-up and subscription confirmation steps of the app. They never run on pages that show your stories, characters, or child details, and they never receive your child's information, story content, or voice recordings. You can turn advertising cookies off at any time (see Your Choices and Rights).
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- create and deliver personalized stories;
- set up and manage your account;
- process subscriptions and payments;
- send account emails and stories you choose to share;
- respond to your support requests;
- operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Service; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never sell or share your child's information. As described above, we allow Google and Meta to collect information through advertising cookies on our website to measure and deliver Kippo ads. Some state privacy laws treat this as "selling" or "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising, and you have the right to opt out (see Your Choices and Rights).
We share information only with the following providers, and only as needed to provide the Service or, for Google Ads and Meta, to advertise it:
- Anthropic — generates the text of your stories and powers Ask Kippo, using the details you provide.
- ElevenLabs — generates narration, music, and sound for your stories (including processing your voice sample if you use voice cloning).
- Stripe — processes subscription payments.
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — account authentication (including Google sign-in), database, file storage, and abuse protection (reCAPTCHA).
- Resend — delivers account verification emails and stories you share by email.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Google Analytics — website analytics, configured as described above.
- Google Ads — advertising measurement and delivery, as described above.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — advertising measurement and delivery, as described above.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of our users, or in connection with a business transfer.
Children's Privacy
Kippo is intended for use by parents and other adults — not by children. Children do not create accounts, sign in, type information, or otherwise interact with the Service. A parent or guardian provides the limited information used to personalize a story.
Because of this, we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The child-related details in your account (such as a first name or interests) are provided by you, the parent, and are used only to create stories for your family. We never use children's information for advertising, never share it with advertising partners, and never show ads inside the Service.
If you believe a child has somehow provided us with personal information directly, please contact us at support@getkippo.com and we will delete it. As a parent, you can review, update, or delete the information associated with your child at any time through your account or by contacting us.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.
How to delete your account. On any plan, email support@getkippo.com from your account's email address and ask us to delete your account. We will confirm your request and complete deletion within 30 days. On a paid plan, you can also choose to delete your account when you cancel your subscription. Your access continues through the end of the period you have paid for, and your account is then permanently deleted 90 days later. If you sign back in before that date, the scheduled deletion is canceled and your account is kept.
What deletion covers. Deleting your account removes your account and sign-in, your stories, characters, and child details, your cloned voices (including the copy held by our voice provider), files you uploaded, and your email address from our mailing list. Stories you shared with others will no longer be available to them.
What we keep. Stripe retains records of payments as required for tax and legal purposes, and we may keep limited records where the law requires it.
Your Choices and Rights
You can access, update, or delete your account information through the Service or by contacting support@getkippo.com. You may also cancel your subscription at any time from your account's billing settings.
Opting out of advertising cookies. You can turn off advertising cookies at any time using the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of our website and app. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: if your browser sends it, we treat it as a request to opt out and do not load advertising cookies for that browser. Because opt-outs are stored in your browser, you'll need to opt out on each browser and device you use. You can also manage ad preferences directly with Google (adssettings.google.com) and Meta (in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings).
California Privacy (CalOPPA)
We are based in California and serve California residents. In accordance with the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA):
- This Privacy Policy describes the categories of personal information we collect and the parties with whom we share it (see the sections above).
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting support@getkippo.com.
- Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is not yet a common industry standard for responding to these signals, Kippo does not currently respond differently to them. We do honor the Global Privacy Control signal, as described in Your Choices and Rights.
- Advertising across other websites: As described above, Google and Meta may collect information about your visits to our website over time and use it to show you Kippo ads on other websites and apps. You can opt out at any time.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Where Your Data Is Processed
Kippo is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version with a new effective date. We will communicate significant changes as appropriate.
